important tumblr post re: bushfires
Jan. 9th, 2013 08:46 pmWe're in the middle of a cool change, which is good, but there are also strong winds that are not helping. And we're in for another heatwave this weekend. Despite all this, as far as I know, NSW has only lost ONE HOME, which is amazing. Tasmania on the other hand has not been so lucky.
There's a little tumblr post I've put together re: the bushfires. You can find it here.
Here's the text:
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, if you have a tumblr reblog it! Or post it on your facebook wall, or you could even repost on livejournal or dreamwidth. I have no idea how to do that repost/boost the signal button thing, but you guys know what I mean. These people need all the help they can get. Even if you can't donate, just boost the signal. It would mean so much to me, to all of us.
xx
There's a little tumblr post I've put together re: the bushfires. You can find it here.
Here's the text:
Guys, the bushfires happening here in Australia are so bad right now, and they’re not getting better. Here is some information so you can know what’s going on and also help. Please reblog and spread the word - we need all the help we can get.
Australia’s East Coast is still suffering horrifically from bushfires. I’m paraphrasing these from the Red Cross website, you can read more here.
NSW - the threat of bushfires remains high in my state. There are several areas that are still in the “catastrophic” rating. A map of the fires burning in New South Wales right now: here.
Tasmania - Thousands of people have been displaced, many losing their homes. There are still people missing, though at this point there are no confirmed deaths.
Victoria - Firefighters are fighting a 7070 ha blaze which is expected to continue for the rest of the week.
South Australia - There are several fires burning in South Australia, and they just went through a really bad heatwave like the rest of the south-east.
If you can, PLEASE DONATE. You can donate via the Red Cross to the Tasmanian Bushfires appeal here, as well as main Disaster Relief & Recovery here. If you don’t have the money, that’s okay - just spread the word! Post this on your facebook pages or just reblog here, and just let people know how they can help. Please.

Guys, some of the bushfires happening right now are out of control. Plus NSW is experiencing an extremely bad heatwave. A lot of the state is in the 'catastrophic/code red' zones, meaning the worst fire zones.
Plus Tasmania, Victoria and South Australia have been wracked with fires as well. I feel awful saying this - but I can't for the life of me remember if I've got other Aussie's from these areas on my friends-list. If so - I hope you guys are okay and staying safe.
I've just called my grandmother and asked her if she's staying safe. She says it's unbearably hot but she's staying indoors. She also says the fires haven't reached her or my aunt yet, thank god. I'm going down to see her tomorrow with my brother and uncle and cousins.
Keep us in your thoughts and prayers. There are people still missing and so many have lost their homes. They need all the help they can get.

You don't have to guess don't worry I'M GOING TO TELL YOU.
WE WENT TO A READING OF EROTIC FANFICTION IN REDFERN. There were penises everywhere and this lady was trapped in this metal chain thing singing about being a stalker and then there the presenter was this gorgeous man that wore an equally gorgeous blue chiffon dress and then someone wrote and read out a story and the pairing was...
wait for it
are you ready?
It was Tony Abbot/Ya Mum. I am not even kidding right now it was the best thing I have ever heard in my entire life. And she was reading it and she was trying not to laugh at herself and then suddenly, she goes "FLAMING MONGRELS" AND IT WAS ALF STEWART FROM HOME AND AWAY HE MADE A CAMEO IN THE STORY.
I was laughing so hard I was crying.
Like everytime I tell someone this they don't believe me but I swear to god this really happened. We are so definitely going next year, it was the best thing EVER.

I wanted you all to know that there's a mirror for my mixtape community AND my Sims community, and it would be awesome if you guys could check them out! I imagine that a lot of you aren't really Sims fans, but you're all music fans, so there's that!

dreamwidth + other updates
Nov. 3rd, 2012 02:43 pmHello everyone! So as most of you may know by now, LJ has gone down the shitter. I have a couple of dreamwidth accounts set up (I even had a mirror for this one) but I've just made a new one that I will probably exclusively use if I make the move over to dreamwidth.
It's oh-deanna, and I'm currently in the process of importing all my entries over to there. If you guys have a dreamwidth (even if you don't use it that much) please comment here and tell me what it is, because I'd love to have some friends over there!
So just to clarify, I'm not going anywhere right now, just making plans in case I do decide to move.
Also, despite the fact that I have a lot of schoolwork to do, I also have eight (yes, EIGHT) mixes to post over the next few weeks or so. So keep an eye out for those!

Oct. 29th, 2012 02:59 pmI know I talk a lot about my favourite bands on here (namely The Black Keys and Neutral Milk Hotel), but there's one more that I rarely mention (and I shall be remedying that today!), and that's The Allman Brothers Band. This band reminds me of being a kid. I listen to their albums and dream of summer days and long car rides, singing along to their songs with the windows rolled down and my hand waving out the side of the car. Their first couple of albums (The Allman Brothers Band, Idlewild South, At Filmore East and Eat a Peach) are among my favourite albums of all time.
I'm talking about all this today because it's the 29th (at least it is over here), which means it's the 41st anniversary of Duane Allman's death. I always get sad thinking about it because I think the world lost a really talented musician that day, and he was only 24... he had his whole life ahead of him, and he was only going to get better as he went on. From wikipedia:
On his gravestone is quoted the following (from something Duane wrote):

From wikipedia:
Howard Duane Allman (November 20, 1946 – October 29, 1971) was an American guitarist, session musician and the primary leader and co-founder of the The Allman Brothers Band, until his death in a motorcycle accident in 1971 at the age of 24.
Duane is best remembered for his brief but influential tenure in the band, and in particular for his expressive slide guitar playing and inventive improvisational skills. His tone was named one of the greatest guitar tones of all time by Guitar Player. A sought-after session musician both before and during his tenure with the band, Duane Allman performed with such established stars as King Curtis, Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett, and Herbie Mann. He also contributed heavily to the 1970 album Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs by Derek and the Dominos.
Duane Allman’s skills as a guitarist were complemented by personal qualities such as his intensity, drive and ability to draw the best out of others in making music. He is still referred to by his nickname "Skydog"
On his gravestone is quoted the following (from something Duane wrote):
"I love being alive and I will be the best man I possibly can. I will take love wherever I find it and offer it to everyone who will take it. . . seek knowledge from those wiser and teach those who wish to learn from me."

the black keys concert recap
Oct. 23rd, 2012 06:39 pmSo as most of you guys know by now, I am a rabid Black Keys fan, have been since I was 16/17. I saw them for the first time last night with my Emma, and they were awesome!
The opening act was The Royal Headaches, an Aussie band from Melbourne that were really awesome and energetic and fun, I recommend you guys check them out!
I bought a shirt, some badges and their latest album El Camino, with the extra tour rehearsal tracks. I almost bought their poster but it had a giant fucking rooster on it so NO THANK YOU!
It was the best concert I've ever been to, and not just because they're my favourite band. Everyone was so happy - you could look across the stadium and all you could see where people hugging and dancing and singing and having fun, it was the best experience ever. Emma and I spent the whole time singing and dancing to every single song (we were so exhausted by the end of it, but it was totally worth it).
We did not have the best seats, we were a fair bit back but the place where they played was not that big, I think it was like 14,000 capacity so we actually weren't that far from the stage. I did take heaps of videos but to be honest they're not very good (I mean, the sound is excellent but the footage is quite shaky due to a combination of dancing and being so far away, but I'll post one. And I'll also post one from this other girl's. I spoke to her on tumblr, she was in the front row and even she said that it was the most peaceful concert ever. She was right at the railing the whole time and no one shoved her or got in her way or anything. I could see into the crowd and there was like no on full on moshing, they were just dancing and having a blast. So yes, here are some videos from the night on video (highlight would have to be the giant disco ball!). The first one is from the girl, and the second shitty one is mine and it's really short but I just loved the way his voice sounded, especially around the 0:30 mark. So amazing!

THE ULTIMATE SILENCE ~ October 12th, 1998

Listen to the mustn'ts, child.
Listen to the don'ts.
Listen to the shouldn'ts,
The impossibles, the won'ts.
Listen to the never haves,
Then listen close to me ...
Anything can happen, child.
Anything can be.
~ Shel Silverstein
Fourteen years ago today, Matthew Shepard was murdered for being homosexual.
What will you do to end the silence?

gasp! it's a mix archive!
Sep. 5th, 2012 11:58 pm[ 5-9-12: Finally! I was posting some stray mixes to theworlditgoes and decided now was a good time to put this whole thing together (of course, this is all happening while I'm sick with a fever and coughing up a lung). Just so you all know, I haven't decided how exactly this is going to work, so it may go through a couple of different incarnations before I'm happy with it. ]
bad news everyone
Aug. 16th, 2012 07:53 pmSo my computer has died. Dead dead dead. I'm typing this from my mother's iPad which I probably won't be able to use again because she really doesn't like sharing. What does this all mean? It means I'm screwed. My whole life is on that thing. I can only hope that the computer guy can recover my files. Wish me luck. I'll do my best to check in whil I'm at school, but as you can understand, it's gonna be tricky. Honestly, I'm just so devastated right now, I can't even begin to describe it. And mum's hovering over my shoulder yelling at me to get off. Fuck. Hopefully I'll see you guys soon. Love you all! xx

Jun. 28th, 2012 03:05 pm"And I remember when I met him, it was so clear that he was the only one for me. We both knew it, right away. And as the years went on, things got more difficult - we were faced with more challenges.
I begged him to stay. Try to remember what we had at the beginning.
He was charismatic, magnetic, electric and everybody knew it. When he walked in every woman’s head turned, everyone stood up to talk to him. He was like this hybrid, this mix of a man who couldn’t contain himself. I always got the sense that he became torn between being a good person and missing out on all of the opportunities that life could offer a man as magnificent as him.
And in that way I understood him and I loved him. I loved him, I loved him, I loved him.
And I still love him. I love him."
Beautiful, beautiful, flawless. I cried at the end. Love her so much ♥

26. Braveheart
Jun. 9th, 2012 05:34 pmI feel like a dickhead right now because I signed up for the Glee Big Bang and ONCE AGAIN I didn't finish the art. I'm just going to avoid big bangs for awhile. My heads a mess because of schoolwork and family crap and I just feel terrible for even signing up when I had an inkling that I probably wouldn't be able to finish it. Ugh. Anyway, here's my second favourite movie of all time (after Say Anything) of course...

SYNOPSIS: William Wallace is a Scottish rebel who leads an uprising against the cruel English ruler Edward the Longshanks, who wishes to inherit the crown of Scotland for himself. When he was a young boy, William Wallace's father and brother, along with many others, lost their lives trying to free Scotland. Once he loses another of his loved ones, William Wallace begins his long quest to make Scotland free once and for all, along with the assistance of Robert the Bruce.
WHY IS IT ON THE LIST: As my history teacher used to say in high school, "This movie is a historical fuck-up, but god damn if it isn't entertaining as hell." (She may not have said those exact words, I'm paraphrasing of course :P). This is the movie I put on when I want to watch something but I don't know what exactly. I know all the lines and I will literally put it on, bustle around my room doing something, and then pause mid-action to look at the screen and say the lines along with the actors. I have no idea why I love it so much, but I love it. The romance, the action, the characters. Everything.
